TATA Entering to 4G with Reliance Infotel

TATA -RELIANCE
India’s leading telecommunication company Tata Communications is also looking to enter 4G space . Tata Communications took part in the BWA auction but left with no win.

In 2G & 3G space Tata comm is not even in top 3 slots, but India’s iconic business group cannot ignore the potential of 4th generation wireless broadband services in India and targets an entry into 4G segment.

Reports indicates Tata may enter into a tie up with Reliance Infotel, country’s only pan India 4G spectrum winner.

It should be noted that Tata Communications owns prominent tower company Viom Networks (earlier known as Tata-Quippo). So Tata Communications can offer towers, optical fiber network & international gateway to Reliance Infotel. Similar prospectus also comes from Reliace Communication, owned by Anil Ambani.

Tata Communications is also looking to enter 4G directly by buying Qualcomm’s asset of four circles’ BWA spectrum as hinted by NDTV. But as Qualcomm is messed up with the four Linkcompanies for four circles and one ISP license the buy-out will be delayed for months.

Qualcomm entered the BWA auction to ensure LTE roll out and also announced that eventually they will leave the Indian ISP market. Industry rumor is Airtel is keen to buy Qualcomm’s wireless broadband business as Qualcomm holds lucrative circles like Delhi & Mumbai.

Mumbai and Maharastra are like den of Tata Communications, where they have great base. It is expected that Tata Comm will try their best to buy out atleast Mumbai’s 4G license from Qualcomm.

Vodafone 3G WiFi Device Launched in India-MiFi

VODAFONE 3G WiFi Device-MiFi

Vodafone is all set to introduce 3G services in the country.

In preparation to that it has announced a new 3G dongle (device) that acts as a WiFi hotspot and lets five people connect to it for accessing internet.

The device is priced at Rs 5500 the device is cheaper than what Tata Photon offers. The product is quite useful. We hope that Vodafone launches an unlimited plan for this device that will really sweeten the deal for students and small professional teams.

Tata Phonton which offers a respectable 3.1 mbps speed has a similar WiFi dongle which is priced at Rs 6500, almost Rs 1000 costlier than Vodafone offer, and doesn't even offer unlimited plans which they offer for other data cards and dongles.

Vodafone also has been selling 3G dongles for Rs 1500, but right now in absence of 3G services it is offer services through edge network with max speed of 256 kbps.

There are certain phones which come with MiFi capability, including Huawei Ideos, Motorola Milestone, and Apple iPhone.

Reliance Video call Rates Slashed

Reliance 3G Video Call Rates..
Reliance Communications (RCOM), India’s single largest dual technology telecom operator today announced the Video Calling tariff for its 3G Mobile Services users.

Reliance 3G local Video Call cost will be 5 paisa/sec (Rs.3/minute) while STD Video Call will be charged at 7 paisa /sec (Rs.4.20/minute).

With the Telecom Ministry and The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) clearing decks for Video calling on mobile phones, Reliance Mobile announced the 3G Video Calling service with Day and Night tariff structure. The Reliance 3G Video Calling charges are similar to Tata Docomo but not cheap or affordable as state run Pan India 3G Mobile Service operator BSNL and MTNL.

If we compare the Reliance 3G Video Calling tariff with Pan India 3G service provider BSNL/MTNL that its seems that after Tata Docomo now Reliance Mobile threw water over mobile users who had hopes of “Cheap 3G Video Call tariff” from the private operators in India. State run MTNL providing Video Calling at just 1p/sec for other network and 1p/2 sec for OwnNet While BSNL charging 30p to 70p/min.

Mobile Operators collaborating for nationwide 3G services

A good news for all mobile Subscribers for changing to their own 3G operator where they have no license in that circle...

Your operator didn't secure 3G spectrum in your circle? Dont be sad.. operators are collaborating with each other to ensure that they can mutually have a nationwide presence through network sharing and roaming agreements so as to provide 3G services across the nation.

While there is nothing new with roaming agreement between service providers, it is now being worked out in a way that operators can offer services even if they do not have spectrum in that circle.

Also, since spectrum sharing is not allowed in India, it will be interesting to see how operators manage alliances.

Active infrastructure sharing, on the other hand, is permitted and 3G equipment that operators have deployed also supports it.

Shudeep Majumdar, the spokesperson of Nokia Siemens Networks, said, "Our equipment is ready for network share with little upgrade. If utilised it will reduce capex spend of the operators drastically."

According to various media reports, Tata Docomo and Aircel are already discussing a tie-up arrangement. They are said to be testing network sharing in Punjab.

Public sector operator MTNL has already started the process of offering its spare spectrum to other telcos and will soon announce the successful bidders. Both Tata Docomo and Aircel have applied to be part of MTNL's scheme. The other public sector company BSNL has also announced its intentions to invite similar bids.

Experts feel that for operators to achieve economies of scale it is very important that they establish a national footprint. For users network sharing is the only way to get seamless 3G while roaming.

Operators collaborating for a joint nation wide 3G coverage.

Airtel and BSNL most searched in internet for 3G

BSNL 3G- Most searched word online. With private operators gearing up to launch 3G services, online searches for 'wireless broadband' have doubled over the past three months; whereas and BSNL and Airtel 3G are the most searched service providers for 3G services searched by people browsing the net, according to Experian Hitwise.

Navin Chandani, managing director, Experian Marketing, said,Over 5,300 different variations of the word 3G (example 3G services, 3G handsets, 3G mobiles etc) are being searched by Indians on the internet, which translates to the fact that 3G is on the minds of a lot of people.

He further stated, "BSNL is the most sought after 3G service provider, followed by Airtel, MTNL and Tata Docomo."

Experian Hitwise is a keyword research tool for analysing the long tail of search data. It provides insights on how people have successfully searched for products and services online across all major search engines. The data that Experian Hitwise studies does not include mobile internet searches.

The company tracks 25 million internet users globally. However, in India it is dependent on panel data for reporting internet activity. A recent report by the company revealed that Nokia is the most searched mobile handset manufacturer in India, followed by Samsung. Eight of the ten most searched mobile phone models in India are manufactured by Nokia, with the company's 5233 model claiming the top spot. Samsung, with its Corby and Champ, was the only other manufacturer to have made it to the list.

Interestingly, Micromax took over Apple iPhone to become the third most searched mobile handset manufacturer in India.

Chandani opines, "There may be several factors working in the favour of Micromax. However, I believe that the offline marketing and branding campaigns undertaken by Micromax appear to be working in its favour. Its positioning as an economic and feature rich mobile brand is helping it overtake the iPhone, which is yet an expensive proposition for a majority of the population."

He believes that it may be difficult for iPhone to recover considering that the Indian mobile market is price sensitive.
